This week’s theme on d365 is “Called to Follow.” The decision to follow can be costly. It requires trust. Sometimes we are led to places we don’t know or would rather not go. Katie Day reminds us that who we follow matters, because when God is leading the way, we are never alone. Tuesday October 28, 2014 PAUSE... “Where you go, Ill go; Where you stay, Ill stay; When you move, Ill move; I will follow you. Who you love, Ill love; How you serve, Ill serve; If this life I lose, I will follow you.” youtu.be/1ohvhmGSfxI Chris Tomlin This is the essence of what it means to be a disciple. Disciples are students; they follow their teacher and their teacher’s teaching. In a culture where independence is prized above all else, it’s easy to believe that being a follower is a bad thing. Truthfully? It all depends on who you choose to follow. LISTEN... Joshua then said to the Israelites, “Draw near and hear the words of the Lord your God.” Joshua said, “By this you shall know that among you is the living God who without fail will drive out from before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites: the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is going to pass before you into the Jordan. So now select twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. When the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan flowing from above shall be cut off; they shall stand in a single heap.” Joshua 3:9-13 THINK... When I was in college, I helped a film major friend make a movie. I hated it. I wanted to know the whole story, but I was only given the pages of the script with my scenes. I kept asking my friend for more information, but he told me I didn’t need to know those details. It was the beginning and end of my film career. On the brink of crossing into the Promised Land, Joshua was told to select twelve men. He wasn’t told why, or what their role would be. He was just told to choose them. When you follow God, sometimes you only get to know part of the plan. We live in a world of instant access to amazing amounts of information, and it’s frustrating when we don’t get the answers we want right when we want them. We can read Joshua chapter 4 to find out what happened with the twelve men, but in life, there’s no reading ahead. Following means trusting. Do you trust God’s leadership? Katie Day PRAY... God, I want to know your plans. Help me to have patience, and remind me that you are God, and I am not. I may not always understand your ways, but I am grateful for your love and your presence in my life. Amen. GO... An ancient Jewish saying goes like this: “May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi.” It was meant as encouragement to be a good disciple: follow your rabbi, your teacher, so closely that you get dusty from the dirt he kicks up as he walks. Los discípulos son los estudiantes; que siguen a su maestro y la enseñanza de su maestro. En una cultura donde la independencia es apreciado por encima de todo, es fácil creer que ser un seguidor es una mala cosa. A decir verdad? Todo depende de que usted elija seguir. ESCUCHAR ... Josué dijo a los hijos de Israel: Acercaos y escuchad las palabras de Jehová vuestro Dios. Josué dijo: En esto conoceréis que en medio de vosotros es el Dios vivo, que sin falta impulsará de delante de vosotros a los cananeos, los hititas , heveos, los ferezeos, los gergeseos, amorreos y jebuseos: el arca del pacto del Señor de toda la tierra va a pasar antes de que en el Jordán. Así que ahora seleccionar doce hombres de las tribus de Israel, uno de cada tribu. Fue el comienzo y el final de mi carrera en el cine. A punto de cruzar a la Tierra Prometida, Josué se le dijo para seleccionar doce hombres. Él no le dijo por qué, ni cuál sería su papel. Fue sólo dijo que elegirlos. Al seguir a Dios, a veces sólo te dan a conocer parte del plan. Vivimos en un mundo de acceso instantáneo a cantidades asombrosas de la información, y es frustrante cuando no conseguimos las respuestas que queremos justo cuando los queremos. Podemos leer Josué capítulo 4 para saber lo que sucedió con los doce hombres, pero en la vida, no hay lectura por delante. Significa seguir confiando. ¿Confía usted en la dirección de Dios? Día Katie ORAR ... Dios, quiero saber sus planes. Ayúdame a tener paciencia, y me recuerdan que tú eres Dios, y yo no lo soy. Puede que no siempre comprendo tus caminos, pero estoy agradecido por su amor y su presencia en mi vida. Amén. GO ... Un antiguo proverbio judío dice así: Que seas cubierto en el polvo de su rabino. Se entiende como estímulo para ser un buen discípulo: seguir su rabino, su maestro, tan de cerca que se obtiene polvo de la suciedad que se empiece a levantar mientras camina. Siga no sólo lo que enseña, sino también a dónde va y lo que hace. Que, en la actualidad, responder a la llamada de Dios a seguir. Que estará cubierto en el polvo de la Rabí.
