This will be a little lengthy but bear with me. First of all its a sad day when legally one person can change the course of something that so many others want by filing a complaint. The Freedom From Religion Foundation recently contacted me saying we are in violation of a supreme court ruling by giving our Christmas parade a christian theme. I immediately emailed this letter to our city attorney who said it is a supreme court ruling that has to be followed. Like you all, I am a christian and I stand up for my God and christian beliefs but in our oath of office that we took we said that we would uphold the law regardless if we disagree with it. We dont need a theme to have the type of christmas parade that we want. Individuals and churches build floats and this has never been a problem in the past. Dont boycott the parade becsuse of this because if you do they win. Come to the parade and take a part and enjoy. What you do individually and as a church is your own business. Be positive and not negative and let that one person and group know that we dont need a theme to have a parade to our liking in Piedmont. This email will end up at the foundation Im sure but I stand firm when I say I am a christian and believe in God. No one can stop me from saying that as an individual. You may can take my Christmas theme away but my faith and conviction remain strong. Hope to see record numbers at the parade Merry CHRISTmas.
