This will be lost somewhere between Ebola and Mid-terms. But it is more significant in many ways. The West made two significant strategic errors in Afghanistan (as in Iraq) - First we foolishly attempted to install our idea of democracy in the lands that are simply not ready for such thing and Second - we foolishly left way too early allowing the enemy (witness ISIS in Iraq) to win back the hard won gains. Our collective inability to keep the eye on the security ball and stay the course for as log as needed, diminished the sacrifices f lives and treasure. The Taliban will be back, and so, alas, will we when we once again realize that our security cant be won from behind our wall. Bush and Obama tested the patience of the American people with unattainable goals and failed to explain the importance of keeping ourselves militarily engaged in the region. It will take yet another 9/11.
