This will be my last status update on Lok Sabha Elections 2014. It has been a great experience debating with all of you. I have had people unfriend me, block me and the more enterprising ones fight me on social media. I think the beauty of Indian democracy and freedom of expression in our nation is that so many diverse views are possible. I hope at least some of you had fun too. I truly believe that we should continue debating policies, politics, economy etc. on platforms like Facebook. It is perfectly ok to have an opinion and also to be wrong. I think I have become more knowledgeable and richer in how I perceive my nation and its people through interactions with many. Also, dont discount the power of social media. 2014 was only a trailer on what internet can do to an election in India. In 2019 rules of the game will change further. However, Id like to highlight the importance of data. Hopefully, we will react to situations considering on ground trends, figures and credibility of the source of information. A lot of articles and information is shared online without any background check or credibility of the research. Inherent in all of us is a confirmation bias. We tend to share stuff that supports our own pre-conceived notions. Finally, Id like to say that we should be proud of how our democracy functions. It works because we are positive as a populace. You can analyze this elections outcome in any way and youll realize that almost all segments of the population have given a comprehensive mandate. SC,ST, OBC, Christian, Buddhists, Muslims, Young, Old etc. There is a clear mandate. Data tells us that. We should celebrate it rather than doubt it. Lets truly respect our own countrymen. Lets not create fear but be positive about our countrys all round growth.
