This wonderful message is from Allen Rees. I wrote the following during the tribute and read it to Lori later that night. She asked that I post it here; I hope that it conveys the meaning, for you, that I intended when I wrote it for Lori and Travis. My apologies to all if it reads as too arcane or abstruse. Chaos Theory, sometimes called the Butterfly Effect, if I understand it correctly (and theres a good chance I dont), says that outcomes are influenced by previous, perhaps minuscule, events that may have occurred on the other side of the planet; that a butterfly flapping its wings in Australia may have had an effect on the snow storm in Red Deer. Its not magic, its physics, and Im certain that magic sometimes makes more sense than physics. As evidenced by the number of people present at the tribute, we experienced the Butterfly Effect first hand. Jons presence on this planet helped to shape events in Australia, Montreal, Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton. That Jon Wood was has had an effect on every person in the room. The person who was Jon Wood helped to make Travis the person he is today. He effected change in his mother Lori and she is the wonderful person that she is today because Jon Wood lived. Six hundred and seventy-two people, who knew Jon directly, or indirectly through their friends or loved-ones, will forever be impacted and influenced by Jon. And every person who knew and loved Jon owes a piece of who they are to the fact that Jon existed. Jon was the Chaos Theory made manifest; aspects of him are everywhere and the fact that he lived shaped, and will shape, events now and in the future, in ways which we will know and in ways which we will never understand. John was the Butterfly Effect and, just as he and all of us came from stardust, to stardust he will return. Atoms of Jon are in each of us and everywhere and he will live on in our memories. Close your eyes and think of Jon and your memories will make him manifest. The next time that a thunder and lightening storm rocks this world, as it replenishes the ozone and nourishes the soil, imagine butterfly flapping its wings in Japan, or Australia, or anywhere else on the planet. And think of Jon.
