This world is made of contradictions. For instance, black and white, day and night, love and hate etc. These opposites bring equilibrium and maintain cosmic balance. Excess of one thing, will bring an end to life. So, this concept can be applied to body and soul. Whereas body is mortal, the soul is immortal. The opposite of a fallible body is an indestructible soul. Now, if we do a sin like in order to satisfy our instincts, we harm others, we only bring harm to the mortal part or the body of that individual, whereas by doing sin, the sinner is harming his immortal part or soul. Therefore, to bear sin is the highest and noblest act. In this context, Yazid martyred Hazrat Hussain but he could only remove his body. But, by sinning against Hazrat Hussain, Yazid destroyed his soul - the immortal part. Even after centuries, Hazrat Hussain lives on, whereas Yazid is derided. This is because Yazid fought for his worldly or bodily benefits, whereas Hazrat Hussain fought for his soul, which is in essence the soul of Islam. I can only say, that ideas are indestructible like the soul, this Yazid did not know.
