This writers thoughts reflect some of my own on the matter. On the one hand, I have learned some interesting and valuable things from TED talks. I highly recommend everyone listen to Ze Franks March 2014 TED talk Are You Human? -- it is an insightful and compassionate piece of humorous commentary and ranks among the best that the TED format has to offer. On the other hand, the TED phenomenon exemplifies this deeply disturbing infotainment trend that, despite its investor pitches and About statements, seems to be less representative of some heretofore untapped deep thirst for knowledge (a thirst which, btw, can be slaked with the use of a freely-accessible library card) and more about Conspicuous Edification and cred- and status-building based on shares of the fairly self-satisfied content that represents TEDs stock-in-trade. #malcolmgladwellisms Thinking about thinking as the VICE articles author puts it, begins to touch on the real issue here. I would say it is more talking about thinking about thinking that truly captures the problem.
