This year, I am asking my advanced students to research some pianists. Starting this month, along with the monthly newsletter, I will be sharing one of my students work (a brief bio and a video). Septembers installment is from Rebecca. Rebecca decided to present info on pianist, Daniil Trifonov. Enjoy! (Thank you, Rebecca!!) Jo Ann C. Dalisay, Studio Director DANIIL TRIFONOV Born in Nizhny, Novgorod in 1991,Trifonov began his musical studies at the age of five. At nine years old, he moved to Moscow to study with Tatiana Zelikman and since 2009, he has studied with Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has also studied composition, and continues to write music for piano, chamber, and orchestra. Around the age of 20, Trifonov gained world recognition when he medalled at three of the most prestigious competitions in the classical music world: First Prize and Grand Prix at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, First Prize at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, and Third Prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. After these wins, Trifonov accepted about 85 of the 150 concert offers for the following year. Martha Argerichs comments about Daniil Trifinov, from an interview in The Financial Times (2011): “Last night I listened to him again on YouTube – he has everything and more. What he does with his hands is technically incredible. It’s also his touch – he has tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that.” https://youtube/watch?v=hCBl_MXjfr0
