This year I was elected to be one of the team captains for the Relay for Life team for my sorority Sigma Delta Tau. This was a really special election for me because as many of you know I have a strong relationship with the battle against cancer. In March of this year my family lost a beautiful woman way before it was her time to leave us, and I lost my best friend. My mother was battling cancer overall for three years, but she only became aware of it about six months before it took her life. Watching this disease slowly deteriorate my mothers body was the worst thing Ive ever encountered, and I find it hard to believe anything I will face for the rest of my life could be as difficult as that was. But my mom never gave up hope. She had stage 4 cancer in her bones, and yet she was positive she would live at least another fifteen years and see her grand babies someday. She was a fighter, and I mean that in every sense of the word. She fought this disease with absolutely everything she had, she fought her doctors for better treatment, and she fought all of us anytime we cried, because she was so positive this wasnt the end for her. So I relay for my mother. I relay for the hope and positivity she had up until her last breath. I relay for the hope that someday this disease will be a horrible thing of the past, and nobody will have to fight the way she did. I relay for more birthdays, and I relay to show everyone who is battling this disease or knows someone who is that they are not alone and millions of people around the world are right here fighting with you. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I know its a long post its just something that Im very passionate about, and I really hope at least a few people will take the time to reflect on their own lives and all of the ways cancer has or could affect their life now or in the future, and what we can all do to fight it. If you can donate even a few dollars it would mean a lot to me and all of my sisters, thank you.
