This year marks the 25th anniversary of Canadian Peacekeeping - TopicsExpress

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Canadian Peacekeeping Missions. During this time, 3500 police have served on nearly 60 missions in 30 countries. OPS joined the program in 1995 and has provided 69 officers for Peacekeeping Missions around the world. In the early years, Canadian police worked as the police of jurisdiction in some of the missions, but their primary task has been to train, mentor and advise police officers in failed and fragile states. The goal was to strengthen the local police services in order to improve security - creating safer homes and safer communities for some of the worlds most vulnerable people. Canadian police have established an international reputation for professionalism, resourcefulness and dedication to peace operations, not to mention charitable acts, over the past 25 years. Bring the family on August 10th 2014, to the annual National Peacekeepers’ Day ceremony taking place in downtown Ottawa at the Peacekeeping Monument. The Police Services Contingent will assemble at the National War Memorial at 10:30 a.m. and march onto the ceremony site prior to its start at 11:00 a.m. The hour long ceremony will feature troops of military members, veterans and police officers on parade, music by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ontario and Ottawa Police Service Pipes and Drums and a C-17 fly-past.
