This year one of ART’s goals has been to bring the Hampton Roads rescue community together to better serve all the loving homeless animals waiting to be adopted in our area. ART began this initiative in March with our first multiple organization event at Southern States in Chesapeake. We were joined enthusiastically by the Portsmouth Humane Society and the Virginia Beach SPCA as well as several local rescues. We commend and thank them for their participation. Their eagerness to introduce their animals to potential adopters made our event a success and helped us to recognize that consistency in handling procedures would allow more animals to be available safely at each event. These photos are of our first “Event Handling Workshop” offered by our Pit Bull Awareness Coalition and hosted by the Virginia Beach SPCA, at their shelter. We are so excited to have them join us and appreciate their input and eagerness to make our efforts a success. As with any objective, we will accomplish more by working together. We are thrilled at the prospects of unification as one large rescue community and with the happiness that future will hold for our homeless animals.
