This year, the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) begins at sunset on September 24 and lasts until nightfall on September 26. The New Year is closely followed by the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), which begins at sunset on October 3 this year and ends at nightfall on October 4. Importance Today The entire season of feasts that lasts through much of September and into early October is extremely important, but the Day of Atonement is particularly significant: The Lord spake unto Moses, saying: Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the Lord your God. (Leviticus 23:26-28) By now you may be asking, “But aren’t these feasts only for the children of Israel, God’s chosen people? If I’m not Jewish, how could those be relevant to me?” It is true that the feasts of Israel were all fulfilled in Christ Jesus, and the Day of Atonement was specifically fulfilled when He died on the cross, yet we must also understand the significance of the blessings God poured out on His people during these special seasons. Blessing for Today The Day of Atonement was one of the three times each year when the Israelites were commanded to bring an offering: “And they shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you” (Deuteronomy 16:16-17 NKJV). I encourage you to read Joel 2:12-14 that describes the actions connected with the Day of Atonement. After fasting, weeping, mourning, and rending hearts, then comes the time to leave an offering. What happens next defies human logic. Joel 2:18-23 gives seven supernatural blessings connected to the Day of Atonement offering: A double portion Financial abundance Restoration Miracles God’s divine presence Blessings upon your family Deliverance Specifically, Joel 2:23 speaks of something truly remarkable that will happen to those who move into the blessing of the Day of Atonement offering — a double-portion blessing: “For He has given you the former rain faithfully, and He will cause the rain to come down for you—the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month” (NKJV). The former rain deals with the spring rains, preparing the land for seed time. The latter rain deals with the fall outpourings as the land is prepared for harvest. During the first month of the Jewish New Year, both rains come together for those who do not appear before the Lord empty-handed! Blessing for You! The double-portion outpouring is also for you and me! All of the seven blessings of the Day of Atonement offering are for today’s believers! I do not want you, my partner, to miss these heavenly benefits at this time of incredible harvest and blessing, for we know that the Lord Jesus, the highest authority in heaven and earth, detailed the law of supernatural kingdom outpouring when He said: “Give and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38).
