This year, the Research Committee of the Entrepreneurship Division - TopicsExpress

This year, the Research Committee of the Entrepreneurship Division will sponsor two PDWs at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. This message announces a PDW of interest to any researcher concerned with moving forward our understanding of firm growth. Program Session # 382, "Multi-level approaches to Firm Growth," co-sponsored by the BPS Division, will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 4:45 to 6:45 at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in Osprey 1. Research Committee-sponsored sessions are typically well-attended and always generate lively discussion. We urge you to participate in this PDW, and, as suggested below, to submit beforehand questions that you want to encourage the presenters to address. PDW Description: Despite an extensive literature on entrepreneurial growth, research focusing on questions such as how firms grow, why they grow according to different patterns, how the decisions about growth are made, and the critical dimensions of the contexts in which growth takes place – or does not – have been largely neglected. A recent review article explored these issues and identified a greater need to understand the processes that underlie entrepreneurial growth. The authors identified the need for greater insights into four main aspects of growth: how the entrepreneur’s cognitive processes shape growth, how entrepreneurs access and configure resources to achieve growth, the full range of contextual dimensions that shape these processes, and finally, how these three understudied elements results in different patterns and types of growth. The paper highlighted the need for future research exploring these issues to adopt multilevel approaches and greater methodological plurality. That research agenda provides the departure point for this PDW which seeks to foster discussion that extends and deepens these topics and serve as the starting point for the next generation of research on entrepreneurial growth. This is one of two PDWs sponsored by the Research Committee of the Entrepreneurship Division. This PDW will provide guidance for researchers interested in contributing to the next generation of research on entrepreneurial growth. The session has been organized by Mike Wright, Ileana Stigliani and Ted Baker and will be facilitated by Kisha Lashley of Penn State University. It will be structured around brief presentations followed by extensive discussion between the presenters and members of the audience. The presenters, all experts on the challenges and rewards of studying growth, include: Andrew C. Corbett; Babson College Alexander McKelvie; Syracuse U Karl Wennberg; Stockholm School of Economics Per Davidsson; Queensland U. of Technology Frederic Delmar; EM Lyon Please send any questions you want to provide to the presenters prior to the session to both: Kisha Lashley: [email protected], and Ted Baker: [email protected] We will look forward to seeing you there. -- Ted Baker Professor, Management, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Executive Director, The Entrepreneurship Collaborative (TEC) Innovation Director, ASSIST National Science Foundation Nano-Engineering Research Center North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC Fellow, The Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship University of Cape Town, Cape Town South Africa Associate Editor, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal Field Editor (Sociology), Journal of Business Venturing
