Thistle Sounding Off Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Waiting to Exhale Greetings and Salutations to all my Friends of and on this Page off all my fellow Antiguans and Barbudans. Hope all is well with all of us, and this day is filled with blessings and productivity for everyone. Let start me by my and making myself as clear as possible. This post is solely the independent opinions and observations of Thistle Simmons and no one else’s. I do expect not everyone will or should agree with me, and may have a different view point on the issues that I will address in this post. This is really the corner stone, pillars and elements of democracy and the democratic process of the societies that we live and love. One should be able to voice their opinion without any fear of reprisals in doing so, as well as to be respected for having their own view point / opinion, on any issues as they see it fit to do. As a member of this Group who watches, listens, participates, post and give comments on matters of concern within the group, I’m obliged to SOUND OFF and EXHALE on some matters that I’ve observed. A few weeks ago as most of us may remember or recall, Something was posted that offended some members of this group and the communities that they resides, grew up or which they have a great connection to . I’m speaking specifically of people of The Villa / Point and Grays Green communities. I made a specific effort not to comment on that post but to instead take the time to read and observe the comments and responses of the charges made of these two important communities in our Nation of Antigua and Barbuda. During that period of time some thoughts and observations came to mind that decide to share with you. Let’s take the groups leadership first of all. A Leader has the responsibility to sensitive of the people feelings. Be responsible and responsive to the things that affects the he / she leads. As a general rule of thumb should not or try not to be insensitive, insult and or offend the same people that they depends on for support and or serve. If for any reason finds themselves in such situation (s) I think that the leader should apologize from the Office of which he / or she holds. Example of this kind of leadership I‘ve seen when a politician for example finds them self in a position like this they formerly apologizes to the audience, retract the offensive language, and remove it from existence. None of these was done at the leadership level during the whole debacle. I’ve seen some apologetic comments but none from an official position being their origins. Secondly the leader of the group after coming under some well-deserved scrutinies and criticisms from the people of the affected communities publicly announced to the group of resigning the position of leader of the group. In a group as large of this one I person do not agree that the Administrative Authority should be solely in the hands of one person or individual, this gives rise to a very weary and disgusted term most of us has no tolerance by it’s mere term of Dictatorship. In every society be it Government, private business, sports, politics etc. the norm usually is that a set of people to be charge of the steering and overseeing of the affairs of that particular organization or group. If the leader chooses to resigns that’s a personal choice and no one else’s and this was done during the debate. My question and issue how, whom and when reinstated the leader to the same position previously resigned. I think if one has any position and any consideration of reinstatement should NOT be done by the same person who resigned, this in my opinion is disrespectful and maliciousness to everyone else in the group. I think that principle should be questioned and I’m do that, yes I am. On the question of offending people I’m from the Freemans Village and of the greater / larger communities of All Saints and Sea View including , if these criticisms and sentiments was levied against any of the three villages I mentioned YES I will be offended too. So I cannot blame the communities of Villa/ Point and Grays Green for their outraged, disgust, they’ve showed and expressed. Again no official Apologies, the post not was being removed, resignation and reinstated by no one. These are unacceptable to the entire group as far as I am concerned under no condition. I’m not the one to determine who should or should lead this group or even questioning one’s ability to lead. This is not a personal attack but an attack on the PRINCIPLES that our leadership operates. Let me end this post as I started it, these is my opinions and I do not expect every one either majority or minority to agree with them, but “You know you’re Antiguan when” you can sound off on the issues and still have a laugh lol.
