Thomas Health Systems Junior Nursing Academy. This week, June 18th – 21st, Thomas Health System, in conjunction with the West Virginia Center for Nursing and the University of Charleston, will be once again hosting the Junior Nursing Academy. One of the goals of this program is to provide an educational opportunity that will give promising students who are interested in a career in the nursing profession a chance to learn more about nursing in a meaningful, hands-on way. This year we have 28 eighth grade students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 who were accepted. We have 17 students returning this year for our Senior Nursing Academy. In the senior academy, the students will be paired with nurses in a variety of areas throughout the health system to allow them to gain firsthand knowledge through a structured shadowing experience.
