Thomas Kemper Reflects on Bishop Martin McLee Much has been said about Bishop Martin McLee’s inspirational and creative leadership not only for the New York Annual Conference, but also for the United Methodist Church as a whole. I worked closely with Bishop McLee several times including around the response to Hurricane Sandy. When I heard the news of Bishop McLee’s death, I remembered when he made his first visit to Global Ministries. Soon after he was elected as bishop, I invited him to preach at the missionary commissioning service that was part of the organizational board meeting. Bishop Mclee’s challenging and inspirational message ended with a missionary rap which was a personal highlight and affirmation for the new missionaries as well as for our new board of directors, which was convening for the first time.
