Thor: The Dark World 2013 now available on PPV and soon on Blue Ray and DVD This second installment of the Thor saga picks up the story two years after the end of the first movie, and some undetermined time after The Avengers. We learn of a war long ago in Asgardian history, between the Dark Elves and the armies of Bor, Father of Odin. At that time the Dark Elves tried to return the universe to darkness through the use of a powerful force, known as The Aether. Bor defeated them, though their leader Malakith escaped with a portion of his legion, and Bor hid The Aether where it could never be found… or could it? Dr. Jane Foster stumbles on this mysterious force and is possessed by it when she is studying gravitational anomalies in London. Of course Thor comes to her rescue and takes her to Asgard to try to help her. From there it’s a race to keep The Aether out of Malakiths clutches and save the universe, what else? Thor must begrudgingly enlist the help of his untrustworthy brother, the god Loki, and together they hatch a scheme to fool Odin along with everyone else to escape Asgard and find the stolen Aether. All cast members return to give great performances, and I can tell you this movie does not disappoint for fans of the Marvel Universe. There is no shortage of dazzling special effects, brilliant fight scenes, explosions and utter destruction. Not to mention the convergence of the nine realms and the potential destruction of all. Chris Hemsworth is perfectly cast in the role of the God of Thunder and seems to have become very comfortable wielding Mjolnir, his hammer. Natalie Portman is as lovely and engaging as ever as Jane Foster, but I’m particularly enjoying watching rising star Jamie Alexander in the role of Lady Sif; Thor’s friend and fighting companion. Alexander recently made a guest appearance on Marvels television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in her role as Lady Sif and did a wonderful job. Keep your eyes on this young lady everyone. All in all, Thor: The Dark World is very entertaining and I highly recommend seeing it if you have not already. Four stars out of five.
