Those in defense of #LeagueTables in education should take a moment to reflect on the skills, attitude and knowledge needs of the 21st Century. It is more about competencies than grades, we must gradually de-emphasize certificates and value competencies. Nations leading in global indices, be it competitiveness, innovation or human development strive for quality education and value addition in all sectors. Abolition of ranking in #KCPE2014 has not altered the candidates or schools performance. It has instead punctured the ego of public glorification of results, and by implication, the culture of glorifying end justifies the means - a serious motivator to corruption. What we need is to provide school-level feedback, encourage local accountability mechanisms and help schools develop contextual improvement plans.
