Those who are praying and rooting for Josiah, this is last nights - TopicsExpress

Those who are praying and rooting for Josiah, this is last nights update from Jen (mom) Josiah has had a pretty stable day. Doctors hate when we use that word. They like to remind us he is no where near stable and as critical as they come. But we use it anyway. Stable to us means we can BOTH walk back to our room to get something to eat. We are staying down the hall from the NICU in a little bedroom. We share a twin bed which works out great because the temperature in this room is about 33 degrees. The dialysis is going smoothly so far. It is slowly taking extra fluid off. His numbers are somewhat improving. Slowly. No leaking either which is good. Unfortunately the yeast infection is still there. Its not a surprise as yeast takes about 3 weeks to clear. Obviously Josiah doesnt have that long. The yeast infection itself can be deadly. The problem with dialysis is it sets up the perfect environment for the yeast to thrive. The first problem is the plastic catheter tube that was inserted into his abdominal cavity. Yeast loves to stick to plastic. When a dialysis patient develops a yeast infection the catheter is immediately removed. The yeast treated for a few weeks and then dialysis started again. Yesterday the surgeon said removing Josiahs catheter and replacing it was not an option. Reluctantly the pee doctor agreed to use the existing catheter (Even though contaminated) to continue dialysis. The dialysis fluid contains sugar. Inserting sugary fluid into a dark warm cavity is every yeasts dream. Therefore dialysis could fuel the fire and make the yeast infection that much worse. So far Josiahs blood work has not shown the yeast to have spread to his blood. THANK GOD FOR THIS! The yeast infection in his abdomen is still very very serious! An anti-fungal medication was added to the dialysis fluid. This has not been proven to work but still we are trying. Prayer Requests: 1. Continued dialysis success 2. Rid of all yeast!! 3. Kidneys to heal and function on their own Praise: 1. Second strand of Ecoli is gone 2. Wound care came by to look at his skin and offered a silver coated cloth that will hopefully help him 3. a day of rest for him. not in as much pain
