Those who hold the power of life and death in their hands MUST be judged by a very high standard. This means being rigorously held accountable for every instance of harm or death to a citizen. They are still citizens and still entitled to the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty ~ BUT the way we prove guilt or innocence is a trial by a jury of your peers. Not putting these officers to trial is not doing them any favors. It lowers the repute and respect of the police departments ~ already at an all time low ~ in the eye of the public they are supposedly protecting and serving. Those police officers who hold that to be their duty will WANT to be held accountable for their actions, so as to build up the repute and respect of the law enforcement apparatus in the eyes of the public.
