Those who know me well, know that in all likelihood I was born a social worker. Social work values, kind of run through my veins, and always will. Although I no longer have a job at the front line, and my role is all about the planning and commissioning of child health services, I will always be at heart a social worker. Some of my happiest and most rewarding times have been connecting with others through my job, whether they be with service users, their families, or the wealth of people trying to make a difference to young peoples lives. Tomorrow I have the really great pleasure of going to the wedding (FB friend but wont tag her in this post.....embarrassing mum type status) of a friend who I got to know in 1991 when I was a baby social worker and she was an unhappy youngster, living away from her family. 23 years later and she is definitely all growed up, a fantastic example of hard work, and family support, and her own gritty determination to succeed. She is a total star, and I am amazingly proud of all that she has achieved.
