Those whom the world rejects must move you the most - St Louis de - TopicsExpress

Those whom the world rejects must move you the most - St Louis de Monfort, founder of the Gabrielite Brothers. Rediscovered that teaching goes beyond books and paper knowledge, at its core is a caring heart and a passion to mould students. Was hosted by Principal Eric Leong at the Assumption Pathway School this morning :) APS provides students who have failed PSLE a lifeline and new opportunity to excel. APS was formed in 2009 but has its roots in the Assumption Vocational Institute. The AVI has been serving the community since 1938, starting out as the St Joseph’s Trade School. It was renamed as Assumption Vocational Institute in 1994 and was managed by the St Gabriel’s Foundation. It currently takes in close to 760 students across 6 levels. I met dedicated teachers like Cikgu Salim Buang, who teaches facilities services and has been with for 30 years at APS, since the days of the St Josephs Trade School. Then theres Mdm Wendy Ling, a veteran bakery instructor who found such great joy in teaching special needs students. I met some of them in her class this morning, looking smart in their bakers uniforms. They were all smiles with a great sense of achievement having made their own loaf of fresh bread :) the smell was incredible, nothing like freshly baked bread to awaken the senses in the morning. We had lunch at The ART (Assumption Restaurant for Training), and were served an excellent meal by the students. All for $12 set lunch. The food was impeccable, the service incredible. Also met Gwen, a former SIA stewardess, who volunteers almost daily at the restaurant to help the students pick up proper service skills. Dedicated teachers and passionate volunteers are what set APS apart. PM spoke about different pathways to success, and APS is a shining example of how new pathways are being created. Wishing all APS student every success! :)
