They seek to normalize a behavior that society should in fact be fighting against, especially given the high HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among young people. I acknowledge that Irvin was simply defending a player that he so dearly loved, a player that he took under his wing at the mere age of 13, but honestly, he could have phrased his somewhat backward views better, taking into account his prominence in South Africa as chairperson of Orlando Pirates, chairperson of the PSL, a leader in SAFA and a leader in business. Though Irvin Khoza was speaking the truth, but as a leader he ought to have been more careful. His views could send out a wrong message that it is okay for soccer players to have girlfriends in every city and/or town they play.
