Though Im not as much of a football fan as I once was, I was saddened to hear of the death of former Raider standout Todd Christensen. A true overachiever, he overcame releases by both the Cowboys and Giants, and made an incredible transition from running back to tight end, becoming one of the better receiving tight ends of the 1980s. I remember him even more vividly as a frequent contributor to Roy Firestones ESPN show in the eighties and early 90s. A free spirit, he offered some offbeat observations about the game and often drew laughs from the straight-laced Firestone. Christensen also had one of the more memorable perms of the 1980s! As an added bonus, Christensen once made a guest appearance on Married With Children, where he made several derogatory remarks toward Al Bundy. And its hard to beat that.
