Though the sunshine now comes with showers, some really vicious it is still remarkably mild for late Autumn. Yesterday John took some time off from setting up his book repair workshop to cycle to the post office. On the way back he stopped off to take pictures of the flowers he saw growing on the roadside, he also saw but couldn’t get pictures of several butterflies as well, looked like Speckled Woods, not surprising really with so much nectar still to be had. First a glowing, golden branch of Gorse. Gorse does flower all through the year but at this time of year you’d usually expect to see only a few scattered blooms, not a display like this. Don’t know what the rest of the flowers are little pink ones are growing amongst what looks like clover leaves but certainly not clover flowers, then a wild member of the Carrot family, but I’m not sure which, then what I think is a Mesembryanthemum. I don’t know about the white flower but the purple one looks like Knapweed with Campion in the background. Then he saw this Rosemary growing from an old stone wall and finally not flowers but true Autumnal colour, a lovely crop of Crab Apples. It cant last, can it, so were making the most of every day, enjoy it while we may.
