Thought I would share this with you all I engage and integrate my young company dancers (bounczn) in what ever outreach/community engagement work that we do to teach them that dance has the power to transform and changes lives. It is not all about the lights, the camera or even the audience. It is about how dance MAKES YOU FEEL. It is a feeling that NO TROPHY award or gig or amounts of money can make you feel....that single fleeting moment when you exist and nothing else does... It happens on and OFF the stage....and when they share off the stage...that is where they see and feel and realise the reason WHY they dance...why dance choose them...and why they choose dance..... I take them off the stage and teach them through action that what i have given to them, i now entrust and put in their precious hands the opportunity and ability to give to others around them and not just to their peers. Over 3 weeks we taught dance workshops across Melbourne and Victoria to over 150 Senior Citizens. A instructional video was also circulated and reached many more who we were not able to teach private classes. On 5 Oct 60-80 participants came together to perform in a flashmob. We got them moving but best of all...SMILING.... As my Artistic Director Gilbert Douglas (Bounczn Dance Company) said at our project planning meeting...if we can get them to smile.....our job is done The funny thing is they made ME smile....
