Thought about this issue: Ramon Bautistas hipon joke. It reminds me of the time nga nipalag ang mga taga Manila sa gisulat sa novel nga gates of hell daw ang pinangga nilang syudad. Filipinos are very proud and possess a strong attachment to their native cities or towns. I agree na its just a joke. However, it was in bad taste gyud. No one in the capital should say pikon ang mga taga Davao...have they forgotten how theyve raised hell against Claire Danes et. al. who were disgusted with our capital city? If we look at this in terms of culture, we must remember that we have an ingrained custom that visitors must conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, as approved by the host. Also, there is a strong anti-Manila sentiment in the south. Bisdaks hate being made fun of by the Tagalogs, as they are always portrayed as domestic helpers and utility boys in our films. One must remember our pre-hispanic history--the southern tribes were the most warlike and proud in the country. We take pride in our fierceness in Mindanao. The Davaoenos are not pikon. They just dont take kindly to being looked down upon, and more so by the often-perceived-as-arrogant Manilenos. Sorry, RB. I know youre a good guy. But this is a lesson in culture for you. You dont make fun of Bisdaks in their own territory or they will pounce on you.
