Thought for Sunday: Impact of Senseless Tribalism: Two key events - TopicsExpress

Thought for Sunday: Impact of Senseless Tribalism: Two key events captured my attention in the past week. 1) The National Lands Commission, after weeks of thorough vetting and investigations, reached the verdict of cancelling most of the Titles given to 22 Companies that account for about 500,000 Hectares of public land in Lamu. Most of the Titles were dished out by Key proponents of OKOA Kenya. Specifically the Minister in Charge of Lands and the Constitutionally mandated Public Officer in charge was one James Aggrey Orengo. He worked fully under the supervision, protection and blessing of Raila Amollo Odinga. 2) An international, independent and respected body the World Economic Forum, released its annual global competitiveness index report. In the report, the WEF clearly states that the policies instituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta has seen Kenya shoot up in global ranking in the past one year. This is how Daily Nation reported it in mobile.nation.co.ke/business/Kenya-up-6-slots-in-competitive-hubs-index/-/1950106/2440288/-/format/xhtml/-/g1tsf8z/-/index.html Kenya has climbed up six places in global competitiveness to position 90, driven by a much more efficient government and reduced corruption.. From the events in the past one week, it is clear that a man from Kiambu County has been sweating it out going round the world seeking opportunities for Kenya, seeking cheaper credit, opening up markets for Kenyan goods and the fruits of his hard work are being felt- and acknowledged by institutions like WEF. On the other hand- another independent body the National Lands Commission- says that two men from Siaya County were involved in plunder of Public Land in proportions that have never been seen in Kenya. But some so called intellectuals would rather support two men with clear and documented evidence of involvement in public land plunder- just because they are LUOS, and celebrate the stoning of someone from Kiambu that has been sweating day and night to make their lives better- just because he is KIKUYU.
