Thought this statistic was interesting as I was reviewing an article for publication. In a paper By Grundstein et al in 2012 in the Int J Biometeorology titled A retrospective analysis of American Football hyperthermia deaths in the United States. It was found that the incidence of Exertional Heat stroke deaths has tripled (3 fold) in the past 30 years. Guess what, right at the same time the drink, drink, drink mantra has taken over to presumably stop the fact or rather myth that EHS was caused by the dreaded made up illness called dehydration. So now we have more football players dying of exertional heat stroke AND we are now killing our football players by hyponatremia. Those former WCU AT students remember the word iotragenic ( harm by treatment)? We are killing kids by having them drink so much because we think dehydration causes exertional heat stroke. Lets just all look at the epidemiology data. It makes sense.
