Thoughtful and timely article. The author is missing the point that students dont fall from the sky, they are sensitive to basic social issues too, even if the proletariat and the precariat are not sufficiently represented in an elite university like Jadavpur. These facts alone do not determine the content of a vigorous student movement. Otherwise, the students of Presidency wouldnt have joined the naxalite movement in the past. In any case, the rapid spread of the current movement across not-so-elite colleges suggests that the movement was able to capture vast anti-establishment anger.
