Thoughts Im having and actually asking for opinions. Those who know me know I rarely care what other people think about my opinions so this is rare. I love Pandora and iTunes Radio and have a pretty eclectic taste in music but Ive been on a country music kick lately and always feel comfortable with my 6 yr old daughter listening because I dont have to censor songs due to content as with some other genres. But lately Ive noticed a trend in the top 50 songs that tend to objectify women with lyrics such as shaking their moneymakers and getting fine a...s in vehicles. I am trying to teach my daughter to be a strong woman who can be the best person she can be both spiritually and intellectually. I also am a firm supporter of the arts, freedom of expression, and individuality and I know that if I dont like something in print, radio or tv I can change channels or not read something. But Im talking about mainstream music that for the most part is based on family, faith and values. I dont know what I am going to tell Emma when she asks what her moneymaker is because my moneymaker is my brain and ability not a lower portion of my anatomy and I feel this is true for most women. So I guess my question is do any other people feel this way? Am I overreacting? Should I just change stations? I would be interested to know if Gary McCoy has heard similar concerns on kiss country 93.7 (one of my favorite stations btw) or would like to make it a topic of discussion? Feel free to disagree or let me know if Im wrong.
