Thoughts... Sometimes things need to be said, issues need to be - TopicsExpress

Thoughts... Sometimes things need to be said, issues need to be brought to everyones attention and open healthy rational discussion needs to be had for the benefit of the group as a whole. It doesnt matter how much people dont want to hear it, usually because they dont want to change how they see things or how they are that is detrimental to the groups goals, but sometimes no matter how painful it is things just need to be brought into the light for change for the better for the whole group. Those who have the courage to bring these issues out into the light for discussion and also for the purpose of positive change can be vilified and often accused of passing judgement on those in the group who may be a part of the problem. Observation and a desire for change in a positive direction is not judgment but it can take a lot of courage to share ones observations when one is so often against a raging tide of emotions, delicate egos, single-mindedness and habit. The animal welfare community needs help. They dont need more emotionally compromised people but more calm, logical people who are willing to work together, ego aside and differences aside, for the common goal which is to help the animals. When personal differences, egos and preferences for how things should be are more important than the end goal to help animals that is when its time to regroup, reeducate and reconsider what our goal as a community is. People working on their own or in very small groups unwilling to or refusing to work with others who may not share all of their perspectives are not going to get nearly as much done as a cohesive group of people, coming to the group with different perspectives, working together in spite of their differences of opinions and/or methods. Everyone seems to agree that it takes a village but when it comes to the animal welfare community the village is fragmented and often working against one another over ridiculous things like a difference in opinion on dog training methodology or how to reach out to the animal owning public to help them do better as opposed to judging them for not doing what we would do. Is it the animals we truly seek to benefit or are we looking to benefit ourselves to further or impose upon others our own opinions, to determine a leadership role in the group and/or to gain recognition for what we have done? Just my opinion as well as my experience thus far as a part of the animal welfare community.
