Thoughts and comments are welcome, but this is my position: Jacksonville, FL (July 19, 2013) — Conservative activists Aaron Laramore and Lenny McAllister have begun talks with the support team of Marissa Alexander, controversially jailed in Florida after losing a “Stand Your Ground” defense as a domestic violence survivor, in the hopes of garnering more support for the Florida mother from conservatives, notably 2nd Amendment and self-defense conservatives. The effort, initially spearheaded by Laramore, reached a new level after talks commenced with several on Alexander’s support team, including legal analysts and experts. Both Laramore and McAllister have been among other supporters that have highlighted the inconsistencies between the treatment of the Zimmerman case and other high-profile “Stand Your Ground” cases, including the cases of John McNeil in Georgia, John White of New York, and Alexander in Florida. The two, along with a growing list of other conservatives, are looking for consistency in support and advocacy, particularly from fellow conservatives. “For us, it is a slam dunk decision for more conservatives to support Marissa at this point, especially in light of the overwhelming economic and emotional support given to George Zimmerman by many of our fellow conservatives,” said Republican pundit and former congressional candidate Lenny McAllister. “From an economic standpoint, domestic violence costs American businesses upwards of $1 billion annually in lost productivity. From a civic standpoint, more on-site police activity results from domestic violence calls than any other type of call on average. From a criminal standpoint, domestic violence is the under-reported crime that impacts women and families across all racial, socioeconomic, and geographic lines. From a moral standpoint, partner abuse is one of the cancers that currently ravishes the body of marriage across the nation. For those that stand for economic and social efficiency, strong families for our children, safe communities devoid of crime, and the ability to enact self-defense through the power of the Second Amendment, this case is tailor-made for the conservative argument that centers on the power of the individual in America and the value of personal liberty uninhibited by harm. Further, this case allows for that argument to be made outside of the confines of color.”
