Thoughts from Chief Sjolander... Job posting... We are looking for someone who is willing to work in an ever changing and sometimes, hostile environment. Applicant must be willing to work long hours in all kinds of weather. Hot, cold, wind, rain, snow storms, you name it, we work in it. Applicant must realize that they will be required to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, during hunting and fishing seasons, during childrens conferences, dance recitals, and choir concerts. Applicant must realize that they will lose some friendships by working in this field, but the new friendships they will make will last a lifetime. Applicant must also realize that they will hear from some friends only when those friends need something. Applicant must be willing to jump into raging rivers, run into burning buildings, and pull people out of wrecked cars...all while hiding how scared they really are. Applicant must know that if hired, they will be sworn at, spit at, hit, and threatened at times. Applicant must have thick skin and realize that they are seeing some people at their worst, but must remember they are people, and people make mistakes. Applicant must always be the bigger person while remembering they are no better than anyone else. Applicant must know that they will be under the watchful eye of residents and their trust is earned. Once earned, its very important to keep and maintain that trust. New hires will be held to a very high standard. New hires must have street smarts, common sense, think on their feet, have an open mind, and people skills. There is way more grey than black and white working here. New hires will need to know the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. New hires must be ok with seeing people who are dead or dying and treat everyone with respect. Sometimes, you will need to hold a hand, pat a back, and give words of encouragement. Regarding wage. New hires will be paid a fair wage and are expected to earn it. If you think you will get rich here, you wont, and you should apply somewhere else. You cant put a dollar amount on what you will see, do, or whats expected of you. If this sounds like your calling, please apply at any public safety agency thats hiring. We are looking for dedicated men and women who are willing to work as police, fire, dispatch, and EMS personal. We are family here and are always willing to make room at our table. Stay safe, Lee
