Thoughts in Worship Message Magazines Online Devotional for Friday, October 3, 2014 Based Upon Revelation 14:6 “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,” The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest story ever told. It is not fiction or a novel. Rather, it is the great news that Jesus Christ lived, died, rose, and now ministers on our behalf in heaven. Jesus is going to return to earth and receive His faithful followers unto Himself so we can live with Him forever. One of three very special messages in Revelation fourteen includes the everlasting gospel. How many times have you heard that the gospel is a New Testament concept? This is not the case. “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” Hebrews 4:2. Paul very clearly said that the gospel was preached unto them, meaning the Israelites. We know from this statement that the gospel message reached back at least to the exodus from Egypt. If we investigate further, we will find that the Lord taught the gospel even in the Garden of Eden. When God made coats of skins for Adam and Eve following their sins, it is clear that He had the gospel in mind. The skins represented the righteousness of Christ. This was signified by the fact that He first removed the fig leaves they prepared for themselves, and that an animal had to die in order for them to have the skins. This pointed forward to Jesus’ death. Something else to consider is that the penalty for sin is eternal death. If humankind was to have any chance at all following the first sin, the gospel would have to predate human sin. If the gospel came afterwards, it would be too late. The penalty would have been issued immediately and there would have been nothing to stand in the way. It is a blessing to know that the Lord had the foreknowledge to prepare a plan for us and sin did not catch Him off guard. The gospel of Jesus Christ was always in the mind of God and it affords us the privilege of being saved. Praise the Lord for loving us with an everlasting love. “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3.--L.
