Thoughts in Worship Message Magazines Online Devotional forSabbath, December 6, 2014 Based Upon Mark 7 - In many ways, we are what we eat. In the world of information technology, it is often said, “Garbage in, garbage out” (GIGO). We are basically a product of that which we feed ourselves. What if we consistently eat live foods like fruits, nuts, grains, and vegetables? Can we reasonably expect to be more, or less healthy than those who eat mostly packaged cold cuts, cookies, and chips? What if I intend calculating 10% of 100, but I enter into my computer, “1+1+1”? Should I be surprised if the screen reads, “3”? - So it is in our spiritual lives. When we feast on the things of God, we are nourished thereby. Our lives become reflective of the fact. When we sincerely pray often that we will be a blessing to others, those with whom we come into contact will be ministered to. When we read the promises of God on a regular basis, when trials come, His promises will be among our first thoughts. When we make it a habit to seek fellowship with people of like faith, like iron sharpens iron, our collective lives will be enriched. - Conversely, what outcome can we expect if we fill our minds with violence, gossip, doubt, immorality? How will that impact our marriages, neighborhoods, friendships, and church relationships? Will those around us be better or worse off as a result of our influence? - God has been so good to us, even in the midst of these insane times in which we live. He has shown mercy to us, when we have least deserved it. He has listened to our prayers, when they made absolutely no sense. He has revived those who have been formerly dead in trespasses and sin, when they have sought Him diligently. He has given comfort to those who have lost loved ones through tragic circumstances. Why not choose today to fill ourselves today with only that which edifies? Better yet, why not allow the Holy Spirit to fill us, and enrich our lives with the bounties of heaven. It is true the when we put garbage in, out will come garbage. However, it is also true that when the Lord is in our lives, from our lives will shine the light of His love.—L.
