Thoughts on Godzilla- Brief and Spoiler Free. I liked it. In fact, I liked it a lot. HOWEVER, it doesnt hold a candle to a lot of the classics. I feel like this entire film was a gambit, trying to make a Monster Movie from the perspective of the people on the street... Like a not s**** Cloverfield.... But this ultimately ends with them cutting away at the moments that should be the most exciting in the film. It might have worked better if the character we were following throughout the course of the film was more dynamic and played by a better actor. I mean, here is Aaron Taylor Johnson trying to carry a movie, and we follow him and not David Straitharn, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, or Juliet Binoche, all of whom are superior actors. Instead, we are treated to Aaron Taylor Johnson being subjected to Move, Move, Move, Go, Go, Go! treatment for too much of the film. I mean, its alright, and the actual human story is interesting, but couldnt it have been better with a better actor and better character? I spent all of his scenes thinking to myself I wonder what Ken Watanabe is doing now....
