Thoughts on Leadership 181 Why Listening Matters In Leadership VII - It facilitates team bonding Sports analysts have found out that team members and coaches tend to perform better when they have played together long enough to understand one anothers style of play, strengths, weaknesses, etc. The same is applicable to leadership. Great organizations have come to value bonding and spend thousands of dollars on team bonding exercises annually. The truth is that people naturally like to be appreciated and valued and would most often prefer to hang around those that they believe value them and what they might have to offer. Conversely, whenever we feel that we are merely being tolerated anywhere, the response would be withdrawal and a team member is lost! A listening leader will always pave a way for those he leads to come around him and be comfortable. Busy leaders hardly get to know their people because they are more interested in getting the next task done, than in truly knowing who gets it done. This same culture trickles down the team to produce a group of strangers who know little or nothing about each other. Then the work suffers on the long run. LETS GROW TOGETHER! In 2015, I would like us to go on a journey that will make us better leaders. Lets exploit the power of positive peer pressure to help one another. The LeaderStudy project is an opportunity that for us to share insights and lessons from some carefully selected leadership materials (books, videos, articles, etc) and it will be taking place on Facebook, right on your mobile device or PC.
