Three Examples of Really Cool Stuff: 2014.11.11 1) Today started out pretty badly. I was a bit down, for reasons Ill mention privately, but not in a status, and I was a few blocks into my walk to work when I realized I had forgotten both my wallet and my lunch. So, I walked back home, knowing full well that I wasnt going to be able to walk to work. I started my drive to work by nearly crashing my car going down William Street -- nice job with the plows, Madam Mayor! -- and very nearly fishtailed down 13th before making it downtown. So, whats the good news? First, thanks to the way the Yaris compensates for slippery roads, the nearly was in there. Next, I found a 10-hour parking meter about two blocks from where I work, at which parking all day was $2. 2) At lunch, I realized I needed some cheering up. Thanks to donating plasma, I had enough money for a good lunch, and so I climbed into my car and drove to Katies on 40th and Dodge. I was the only person in the entire restaurant, which made me a bit self-conscious, but the hostess was very kind and considerate, and I could smile back and tell her with complete honesty that my lunch, a Greek salad with gyro meat, was outstanding. Im not sure she understood how much of a difference she made today, but she made one. And so, I recommend that those who happen to be around midtown check out Katies; the food and atmosphere are excellent. 3) After my shift was over and I had some coffee, I noted that most of the black ice around my neighborhood had melted.
