Three Lake County bars were charged by Indiana State Excise Police with public nuisance for promoting professional gambling on the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII. Bridges Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar, 121 N. Griffith Blvd., was cited Saturday. According to a news release from the excise police, officers seized $53,750 from the bar and other evidence of gambling. Kenwood Tap in 6247 Kennedy Ave., in Hammond also is facing the same charge. Excise police cited the bar Thursday and recovered $11,000, according to a news release. In Crown Point, Gary Sportsmen Club was cited Jan. 23, when officers recovered $27,570 in gambling money, according to the release. Excise police said the money seized was associated with bets for Sundays Super Bowl.
