Three Star Bugs Last evening, we lost Bugs If she were a woman, she’d be referred to as a Grand Old Damme… a matriarch… the equine equivalent of the Queen Mother in Great Britain. Bugs was all of that and more. She was a well trained show horse in her youth. She won ribbons and enjoyed working. She had at least one foal, and it was a difficult situation for her and the owners at the time were clueless and wanted to breed her again. That is when her most recent, and caring owner stepped in. Bugs went to live the life of Riley with Tamara and be a safekeeper to a little gal for many years. Then, she came to us through circumstances beyond her owner’s control. Bugs was fostered by Carl Howard and Rocchina Salvi for a few years and during that time she lived with Mike Reynolds in Sabina, OH. Mike catered to her every need and became quite attached to our old gal. And, I mean Our old gal… Tammi’s, Mikes, ours, and Jans… She had a great personality and was easy on your heart. Mike took a new job in WY and wanted to take Bugs with him, but he knew that it would be a tough trip for her so he asked us if we’d find her a new home and keep her “local” so she didn’t have to travel too far. Bugs had a crooked front leg and severe arthritis in all four. As long as she could come and go as she pleased, keeping mobile, she was fine. When she was confined in a stall for any period of time she was very stiff. I think she knew that accommodations were made for her everywhere she lived the last few years… she took full advantage of her freedom to roam, especially at her last home with Jan Delzell. Bugs relished making her daily rounds at Jan’s and had full access to just about anywhere on the farm. She had a special buddy but all of the animals were cognizant of the magnitude of her character. She was wise beyond her 32 years and was so very easy to love. If she were alive, she’s say… celebrate my life… don’t mourn my passing. She had a great life and a deserving retirement. She was our queen and the matriarch of her domain. Thank you to all of Bugs sponsors the past year. We truly appreciate your support and could not have given her this life without you.
