Three arrested after video of attack went viral Police in Beijing say they’ve arrested three suspects after a video of an attack on a teenager went viral on social media across China. The video shows three older youths brutally beating up a 14-year-old boy. In the nearly 10-minute-long attack they thrash him with sticks, and even attempt to throw a brick at his head. Beijing Police say the three youths, one 17 the other two aged 15, have admitted the attack. The injured boy is now in hospital. According to the Beijing Youth Daily, the teenagers attacked the boy because they thought he had witnessed them beating another individual and had reported it to the police. The video led to anger on social media. Here are some of the reactions from Sina Weibo. “I can’t believe this. Why should such a barbaric act happen in today’s civilized society?” commented on user. “I want to ask…who filmed this video and why didn’t he stop it (the attack) in the first place?” another user noted. “I strongly appeal for the revision of Law on the Protection of Minors, since the teenagers nowadays mature early; they’re susceptible to negative social influences. If these juvenile delinquencies are not disciplined properly, it will only encourage disregard for the law. This will be hazardous for people around them.” @MaosuDiaos.
