Three candidates are competing for this open seat: Donna Goerner of Altamonte Springs, Mitch Krause of Altamonte Springs and Susan Stacy of Lake Mary. We prefer Goerner for her superior combination of experience and public service. Goerner, an 18-year lawyer, was a prosecutor for 12 years before opening her own firm in 2007. Her experience in private practice is mainly criminal, but also includes civil cases. She has participated in more than 100 jury trials. She is certified by the Bar as an expert in criminal trial law — one of only a few dozen female lawyers in the state with that distinction. While all three candidates have represented clients on occasion without being paid, Goerner has received awards recognizing her pro bono service.
