Three charged in Mooresville robbery MOORESVILLE — Three Grant County residents have been arrested and charged in connection to a pharmacy robbery in Mooresville last year. Mooresville Police Detective Chad Richhart said police believe Bolton Derrick Thurman, his wife Dixie Thurman and Aaron Johnson are responsible for the robbery on Halloween 2012, in which two masked men came into the store at about 4 a.m. and held the cashier at gunpoint. They then escorted her back to the pharmacy and held the pharmacist at gunpoint until they emptied out the safe, Richhart said. “They took about $39,000 worth of prescription medication,” he said. Police received a tip that Johnson might be involved, so they questioned him. “He confessed and said the Thurmans were involved,” he said. “Then I was able to go back and watch the video, and I saw Dixie come in the store about 30 minutes before it was robbed. That went along with what Johnson said about her coming in to scope the place out.” Officials from the police department and the FBI were in Marion on Aug. 7 at the Thurman residence, 1427 Roseburg Pike. They dug up part of the yard. “We were looking for any kind of evidence that could’ve been buried,” he said. The only items found were shell casings, which are insignificant at this point. Richhart said inside the home, however, police found a lot of communication, including incriminating letters the couple had written back and forth, clothing from the Mooresville robbery and the bag that they used to carry the pills out in. They also located two-way radios and a police scanner. “There was an atlas that had several CVS pharmacies and their phone numbers listed on the atlas,” he said. The pharmacies were not only in Indiana, but also Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois. Bolton Thurman and Johnson were arrested in Marion in November following an armed robbery at CVS Pharmacy, 415 W. Third St. Marion Police received a call the night of the robbery that a man in a white pickup truck pulled up to the drive-thru, pointed a handgun at the employee and demanded Oxycodone. The vehicle then left the scene, and sheriff’s deputies less than an hour later received a call about two suspicious vehicles near county roads 300 North and 300 West. Deputies found several bottles of Oxycodone in the vehicle in a traffic stop on 325W. Richhart said police are looking into whether the trio might be connected to other robberies, including a couple in the Greenfield area and in Ohio. He wasn’t aware of any in Grant County, and Marion Police Detective Capt. Jay Kay said police don’t believe the suspects are connected to any other robberies in the Marion area. Richhart said Bolton Thurman and Johnson have both been charged with armed robbery, two counts of criminal confinement and two counts of intimidation, while Dixie has been charged with two counts of aiding or inducing an armed robbery. Bolton Thurman, 33, was still being held in the Grant County Jail on the Marion robbery charges, and Richhart said he’d be brought to Morgan County once his case here is resolved. Johnson, 37, last known address 1124 N. Main St., Fairmount, was out on bond on the Marion charges and turned himself in on the Mooresville charges. He had already been released from jail as of Tuesday, Richhart said. Dixie Thurman, 34, was arrested on Thursday at her home. She had been at work when police went to search her home the week before, but she later returned. “We tried to question her, but she didn’t want to talk to us,” he said. She was being held without bond in the Grant County Jail on Tuesday, but Richhart said she should be transported to Morgan County soon. Police while they were in Marion also tried to talk to her husband in the jail, but he also refused to talk. Richhart said he appreciated the help solving the robbery from the FBI and especially the Grant County Sheriff’s Department. “Those guys were just wonderful to work with,” he said.
