Three days to train a recall. Normally there is a gap of between four and eight weeks between someone deciding they want one of our dogs and them getting the dog, which is plenty of time to sort out quirks. This time we have three full training days - local interest. Nice pup, about seven months, just took her out for my own assessment, she wont come when called. Not from miles away (I havent even tested that) but three feet away. Offer her a sausage, she sits just out of reach. Ive noticed before that if I go into the small room she uses as shade in the day she goes out first as I can come in and then comes back in for a cuddle once Im settled. Shes clearly been walloped and she thinks being called means more of the same. Three days to train her out of it. Eva and I will now go sit in the kitchen with her and a can of sausages and get her to come to use when called. Other, better ideas? Three days...
