Three runs from the cider press with different apples (an odd mix Harrison, winesap, Blacktwig, and two crabs, one red and one apricot. Crab apple cider is so excellent. Its the one on the left. The juice is so lively. Also, I echo the words of Coxe from 1817 (quoted from Calhouns book) about the Hewes virginia crab: It grinds small and the pulp is remarkably tough, yet parts with its juice readily and the must runs from the press very fine and clear. Ill add to what he said that it just sizzles with flavor. George Washington preferred it (crab cider) to any other and arranged to get it during the revolutionary war!
