Three years ago, I was diagnosed with lupus. Though I have my share of good and bad days, the overwhelming majority of my days are good. There have been some changes to my heart and Ive gained an astronomical amount of weight, but none of my major organs have been affected and I pray it stays that way. I have the opportunity to live my life, raise my children, be involved in my community, and enjoy the company of my friends and family on occasion. It is not lost on me how fortunate I am. I woke up this morning to see that another young woman (21 years old) passed away yesterday from lupus. She was a friend to many of my friends and although I didnt know her personally, I know she was full of joy and light and much too young to die. I try not to question why things happen, but this year seems to have taken several young women due to complications from lupus and today I am having a particularly difficult time understanding why.
