Three years ago I was on a helicopter to Mass General due to a heart attack. Id like to say thanks to the staff at Nantucket Cottage Hospital for their due diligence and ignoring my repeated claims of Im fine. I was weighing in at 255 thinking I wore it well, not exercising and eating poorly. Today, I am down almost 40 pounds, have adopted a whole foods/Vegan lifestyle, and have become a obsessive compulsive cyclist. By 50, I plan to officially be down 50lbs. New Years resolution makers: Start with your diet and experiment in the kitchen with new recipes, it can be a lot of fun getting out of your old habits and youll be amazed to find that your taste buds will change and the cravings for junk food will fade. Oh She Glows has a great cookbook as well as on line recipes and is a great place to start. There are tons more resources once you start looking. Oh, and watch FORKS OVER KNIVES its available on Netflix. Get your exercise in. It totally sucks and youll feel awful at first but persistence pays off and soon youll feel lousy when you dont work out. I may be biased but cycling is a great way to get yourself and your heart back in shape. You will also make some new friends who will inspire and encourage you. That is all. Peace and love.
