Through Pentecost, God was making a bold statement in the pages of history, that no man can bring anything to pass except the Almighty approves of it; and His approval cannot be secured except His hand is in the work: Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. (Zechariah 4:5-6 KJV) It seems this bold statement has woefully been overlooked by many “great hunters” in the work of the Lord. We still find many, as Nimrod, trying in vain to serve God in their own power, neglecting the power of the Spirit! Indeed, the curse of this evil hour is our technological sophistication. We can do so much “for God” even without His help! In the first church, their meetings were advertised by the fire of Pentecost. In today’s churches, we must of necessity have a grand media and publicity department because we have no fire! If we had the fire, and then the media, then we had no fault with us. But to substitute His Holy Fire with our strange fire is a great affront on the Wisdom and the Power of God! God help us in this evil hour! O, that we may humble ourselves with William Booth in his plea for fire! Thou Christ of burning, cleansing flame, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire! Thy blood bought gift today we claim, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire! Look down and see this waiting host, Give us the promised Holy Ghost; We want another Pentecost, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire! God of Elijah, hear our cry: Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire! To make us fit to live or die, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire! To burn up every trace of sin, To bring the light and glory in, The revolution now begin, Send the fire, send the fire, send the fire!
