Through our various social channels, we have received some recurring questions during our service disruption. Below are the answers to them: 1. What is a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack? DDoS attacks are sent by people or botnets, a collection of Internet-connected programs communicating with other similar programs to perform tasks. This means that a person or group of people is illegally generating massive amounts of Internet traffic and pointing it at our sites, including realtor, Top Producer, and other Move sites. 2. What are we doing to ensure this doesn’t happen again? Because the design of the attack is to overwhelm a system with traffic, even the redundant aspects of our systems are impacted. Move is working 24/7 to migrate all its systems to a different network architecture to increase their protection. We operate a large suite of websites so its migration plan is complex and will take several days, which is typical for companies under a DDoS attack of this strength. Because this is a growing risk in this day and age, we will continue to work with experts to implement best practices. 3. When will I be able to access realtor again? Along with our network service providers, we are working quickly to access and resolve the outages with the least amount of disruption to you.
